Hipster Branding

designoclock:
Dave Spengeler
from Switzerland shows on the ‘ branding Hipster tumblr blog, how logos of famous brands would look to today’s design trends well. He missed Coca Cola, Ikea, Red Bull, Nivea and many more a complete makeover. For more great hipster branding can be found here.

I saw this site a while ago, but I didn’t get around to sharing the goodness till now. What’s ironic is that I would love to see some of these brands explore with these mocked logos. At the very least it’s a fun identity re-imagining/experiment. Here are a few more I enjoy:

DC Entertainment’s new identity

I’m intrigued. From a nerd level as well as a design level. I get the metaphor of “secret identities” revealed. Nice touch on the “Watchmen” variation. Deep cut.

fastcompany:

DC Entertainment serves up a sneak peak at the next step in its evolution as a multimedia entertainment company, with a new brand and interactive logo that celebrate its long history of secret identities, superpowers and storytelling.

The new overarching concept embraces the DC Entertainment corporate identity—which comprises publishing, media, and merchandise. That includes the three publishing imprints—DC Comics (superheroes), Vertigo (edgier fare), and Mad Magazine (humor)—plus movies, TV shows, video games, DVDs and merchandising, most of which are distributed by Warner Bros. Thematically, the new look and feel imparts a sense of great storytelling, appeals to all ages, and is flexible across media, digital platforms, and characters.

Caleb Owen Everitt

I can’t get enough of this urban, rugged americana design aesthetic.  Austin-based visual designer Caleb Owen Everitt nailed it.  I’m not sure if he’s still there, but he certainly left his mark on some of PTARMAK’s older project.

Rugged Americana is something I really dig myself. There’s just something so, sincere, authentic about that design style that really appeals to me.

Who the hell is this guy?

Who the hell is this guy?

Oh wow, someone's actually reading this? OK, this is happening. My name is Alex and I'm a designer with slight anti-social tendencies. I'm black, live in the DFW metroplex, work at an ad agency, and drink alone in the dark on week nights. While being black, I write this blog as a creative outlet when not starting flame wars over the best episode of Battlestar Galactica (Gaeta's Uprising or The Final Five Revelation of course). I share interactive & design inspiration, the latest in pop culture, movies, and general nerdery.

I am currently unmarried and live alone. I make egg sandwiches and have no pets. I like eating tacos with no pants as well.
