Web Design Manifesto 2012

It took a second for me to decide if enjoyed this approach. I’ve decided I do. I love big bold type. More importantly I like big typographic contrast. Go extreme or go home.

Jeffrey Zeldman, in a beautifully written piece titled, “Web Design Manifesto 2012”:

This redesign is deliberately over the top, but new ideas often exaggerate to make a point. It’s over the top but not unusable nor, in my opinion, unbeautiful….

We can’t keep designing as we used to if we want people to engage with our content. We can’t keep charging for ads that our layouts train readers to ignore. We can’t focus so much on technology that we forget the web is often, and quite gloriously, a transaction between reader and writer….

A personal site is where you don’t have to compromise. Even if you lose some readers. Even if some people hate what you’ve done. Even if others wonder why you aren’t doing what everyone else who knows what’s what is doing.

DOMANI

One of the best examples of a visually engaging agency website that tells a bit of story while letting the work/design shine. It’s funny, because I’ve already started working on ideas for my portofolio redesign next year (not to be confused with the refresh I’m rolling out this week). I’m definitely thinking about going bigger (typographic & photographic) for sure. And also creating individual pages for my projects for linkability & SEO.

Who the hell is this guy?

Who the hell is this guy?

Oh wow, someone's actually reading this? OK, this is happening. My name is Alex and I'm a designer with slight anti-social tendencies. I'm black, live in the DFW metroplex, work at an ad agency, and drink alone in the dark on week nights. While being black, I write this blog as a creative outlet when not starting flame wars over the best episode of Battlestar Galactica (Gaeta's Uprising or The Final Five Revelation of course). I share interactive & design inspiration, the latest in pop culture, movies, and general nerdery.

I am currently unmarried and live alone. I make egg sandwiches and have no pets. I like eating tacos with no pants as well.
