Daughter - Get Lucky (Daft Punk Cover @ BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge)

GET LUCKY

Daughter does a great job of covering Daft Punk’s latest, Get Lucky.

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t start getting interested in Daft Punk until I wore out the Tron Soundtrack they scored. It was sweeping. It was epic. The right mix of dramatic overtures, orchestrated music, and electronica. But going through their catalog, I found that album to be the exception, ‘cause well, I don’t really care for their music. I know, I know, I’m probably in the minority here, don’t get the pitchforks. But when I heard they came out with a new single for Pharrell I got excited and took a listen.

Nope. Still does nothing for me. Not really my style I guess.

But, this cover, this cover is freaking gorgeous.

What I’ve been working on: IQ Energy Conservation

I was tapped by this eco-friendly company to refresh and redesign their identity and visual language. The directive was to create something clean, bold, minimal, and could work iconically. The identity needed to be efficient, like the overall message of the company, helping people and businesses cut energy costs and practice environmental conservation.

There was also a secondary goal to create something still approachable and friendly as well. The icon needed to work across a variety of mediums, from business cards, to trucks, to outdoor signage. It was a blast to work on, and the client (a 2 brother owned business) were pretty forward thinking in their vision for the brand. Just as a reference, here’s an image of the previous identity:

Trust me, this new identity is just an end result of an exhaustive exploration; there were a lot of colors, a lot of icons, a lot of wordmarks we burned through. But I thought I would share. I love interactive, but sometimes it’s fun to take a break and just get into pure design & analog.

Who the hell is this guy?

Who the hell is this guy?

Oh wow, someone's actually reading this? OK, this is happening. My name is Alex and I'm a designer with slight anti-social tendencies. I'm black, live in the DFW metroplex, work at an ad agency, and drink alone in the dark on week nights. While being black, I write this blog as a creative outlet when not starting flame wars over the best episode of Battlestar Galactica (Gaeta's Uprising or The Final Five Revelation of course). I share interactive & design inspiration, the latest in pop culture, movies, and general nerdery.

I am currently unmarried and live alone. I make egg sandwiches and have no pets. I like eating tacos with no pants as well.
